LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Funding will be reallocated to cover Meals on Wheels services in Louisville.
Last week, WLKY reported that recent federal budget cuts and the end of COVID-19 relief money impacted about 1,500 seniors who get food delivered.
As a result, 900 of them had to be put on a waitlist.
On Monday, Mayor Craig Greenberg said funding within the Office of Social Services will now be used to cover the service.
"We're going to continue to find a way. There's a mid-year adjustment coming up from the local budget. And one of the things I'm going to propose, if necessary, is to keep the funding going. We cannot let these seniors go hungry," Greenberg said.
The cost to cover the rest of the year is around $348,000.
