Construction cones are back on Severn Avenue in Metairie, slowing traffic on the busy commercial stretch between Lakeside Mall and Fat City.

Ulexses Reyes at Vision Optique can see the construction site from the window of her shop on 17th Street. She says it's been disruptive for her customers.

"It's hard for them to get in and out of the parking lot,” Reyes said. “They have to go all the way around to get into the parking lot, getting out of the parking lot. Then, they have problems seeing the other traffic coming through.”

Crews are replacing decorative pavers that have been crumbling in the middle of the street. The pavers were installed a few years ago during a $15 million streetscape project that improved drainage and made the corridor more pedestrian- and bike-friendly.
