DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Police witnessed a deadly shooting in downtown Los Angeles Monday afternoon and arrested the suspected gunman after firing less-lethal shots at him, officials said.

Los Angeles police said the initial shooting happened in the area of 5th and Main streets around 3:30 p.m. A large crime scene was established in the area, where a white tent on the sidewalk appeared to be covering the victim's body.

Police witnessed the shooting as they were driving by and say the gunman took off, leading to a foot pursuit.

The foot pursuit ended at 4th and Springs streets, where the suspected shooter was seen holding a handgun, according to LAPD. Police opened fire and shot the suspect with "less-lethal kinetic projectiles."
