IOLA, Kan. (KSNW) -- A Colorado company is shutting down one of its operations in eastern Kansas.

Gates Company has announced that it will be shutting down HFM manufacturing operations in Iola, starting Dec. 1. The company says the closure is permanent.

In a letter to the Kansas Department of Commerce Dislocated Worker Unit, Sean Reed, Director & Senior Counsel – Compliance, Litigation & Employment for Gates, states that an additional five positions will be eliminated on Jan. 1, 2026.

Reed says it will not affect other operations at the facility in Iola. A total of 81 people will lose their jobs, according to the WARN Notice on the KANSASWORKS website.
