MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Tyler Engle has never voted independently. He has muscular dystrophy, making it difficult for him to physically fill out a ballot, meaning he is always reliant on a caretaker to fill out his ballot for him.

“For people who don’t understand,” Engle said, “my go to is, ‘Can I sit and watch you vote? How would you feel if I watched you vote?’”

Engle is one of the plaintiffs in the Disability Rights Wisconsin v. Wisconsin Elections Commission case that had a hearing in Dane County Circuit Court on Monday.

Disability advocates are continuing to push for Wisconsin’s disabled voters to be able to request, mark or return their ballots online. Advocates say online access would give disabled voters the opportunity to vote privately and independently.
