Most everyone involved in OU-Texas has their Dallas traditions.

Early-morning turkey leg. Dinner on Friday night at a favorite restaurant and/or with your favorite people. Secret parking spaces and traffic workarounds.

Here’s my tradition: I pick a winner based on who won the year before. The Red River history shows a series of streaks. The Sooners and Longhorns have spent a century dominating for long stretches.

Texas won eight straight from 1940-47, OU nine of 10 from 1948-57, Texas 12 of 13 from 1958-70, OU five straight from 1971-75, Texas five of seven from 1977-83, OU four straight from 1985-88, Texas 8½ of 11 (counting a tie) from 1989-99), OU five straight from 2000-04, Texas four of five from 2005-09, OU 10 of 13 from 2010-22.
