Not too many cruises take you to the edge of the map.

But for University of Victoria scientist Dr. Tia Anderlini, this was no luxury voyage — it was a full-scale research mission to one of the most remote and unforgiving places on Earth: Antarctica.

“I’ve been on cruises with Americans and a few other people from Europe,” Anderlini said. “But this was possibly my first cruise with all Canadians.”

Last February, a true Team Canada of scientists set sail aboard a Canadian vessel with the Royal Canadian Navy, heading south to study how glaciers are responding to a rapidly changing climate.
