WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. government remains closed as lawmakers failed to pass crucial legislation in the Senate. According to a report, both pieces of legislation aimed at reopening the government did not receive enough votes, with the Republican stopgap package failing 45 to 50.

President Trump stated that he has been in discussions with Democrats, though House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries expressed skepticism about these claims. The House is currently not in session, so any modifications to the Senate version cannot be voted on immediately.

House Republicans emphasized their stance, saying, “We did our job. Please pass the CR that Republicans sponsored.”
