SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) -- The Spartanburg School District Seven Board of Trustees voted Monday night to appoint a new board member.

According to county educational leaders, the district is divided into five geographic board districts. The District 7-4 seat became vacant in August after former board member Rick Gray resigned when he moved out of the district.

Of the seven candidates who spoke to at the meeting, the board selected Sally Carroll to fill the vacancy.

"District 7-4 is a diverse community and that's what makes it so unique," Carroll said. "I will be an advocate for all children, teachers and administrators and bring a fresh new voice to the school board."
