Two law enforcement officers were shot, and one suspect was killed outside the Iberville Parish Courthouse on Monday night.

According to Iberville Parish district attorney Tony Clayton, the two sheriff's deputies were attempting to arrest the suspect, after which a fight ensued.

Clayton confirmed one of the deputies was Sheriff Brett Stassi's son, Brett Stassi Jr. He said the other was Charles Riley.

Both deputies are being treated for gunshot wounds at a hospital. Stassi Jr.'s condition "appears to be optimistic," while Green is in critical condition, Clayton said.

Attorney General Liz Murrill said in a statement that she had spoken to Sheriff Stassi, who confirmed his son was stable but "not out of the woods."
