ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Students at South Carolina State University are calling for change after a violent weekend on campus.

Monday night students gathered to heal, remember, and advocate for an end to gun violence.

Students walked across campus, stopping at several locations to pray and reflect. The vigil was meant to honor the life lost and call for peace.

“I know that people are doing the best they can and just to take the necessary precautions to make sure we don't have any incidents that happen like this in the future,” said SC State junior Khristian Sprinkle.

The event was a response to the weekend’s violence, but students say they won’t let tragedy define their campus. Instead, they came together to show unity, hope, and a collective desire for change.
