A 75-year-old woman from Raina struggled against the turbulent waters of the swollen Damodar river and was rescued about 45 kilometres away from her native place today.
Maturi Tudu of Zakta village in Raina had gone to the Damodar to take her daily bath on Sunday afternoon. Unaware of the strong current, she stepped into the river before her neighbours could restrain her and was immediately swept away by the force of the water. Despite frantic search efforts, she could not be traced.
