PHILADELPHIA - Aaron Nola will take the ball in National League Division Series Game 3, trying to keep the Phillies alive after the worst season of his career.

Manager Rob Thomson named Nola his Game 3 starter after the Phillies lost Monday’s Game 2 of the best-of-5 National League Division Series. They trail the Dodgers, 2-0, needing to win the next three games to advance to the National League Championship Series.

Heading into the series, it appeared Thomson would go with left-handers Cristopher Sanchez, Jesus Luzardo and Ranger Suarez in some order the first three games.

But after Sanchez and Luzardo pitched Games 1 and 2 - with Suarez available but not used out of the bullpen - Thomson went to the longest-tenured Phillie for Game 3.

It’s a big gamble.
