The search for a teenage boy at a popular swimming spot has ended in tragedy after a body was found this morning.
Police were called to Scott Road in Tamworth, in northwest NSW, following reports a 15-year-old boy had failed to resurface from the Peel River about 7.40pm on Monday.
A desperate search was launched with officers from the Oxley Police District and Marina Area Command, with help from the SDS and NSW Ambulance.
Despite the wide-scale attempts to save the boy, NSW Police announced a body was found in the river about 8.30am on Tuesday.
While its identity is yet to be confirmed, it is “believed to be the one of the missing boy”.
A crime scene has been established alongside the commencement of an investigation into the death.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
