Question: I’m thinking of buying a property in the next few months. Just so I’m aware of how much I can afford to buy for, I’m trying to work out which way mortgage rates will go. Is the Budget in November likely to send them upwards?

Answer: Not directly. The Chancellor does not set mortgage rates, and a well-received Budget is unlikely to move them much. The risk is indirect.
