Construction on Brandon’s new water treatment facility is set to begin this week, with Queen Elizabeth Park partially closing for the work.
The 108 26th Street North facility will cost a total of $139 million, between all three levels of government. Work is set to finish in June 2029, the city said in a Friday evening press release.
The construction is to improve the city’s drinking water. It won’t replace the current system set up in the 1940s, but will work in support of it.
The city is contributing $29,370,000 for the project through loans, while the province is putting in $46,630,000. Ottawa’s share is $44 million, for a total of $120 million.
An additional $19 million will come from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and a debenture taken out by the city.
