On the afternoon of October 6, lawyer Rakesh Kishore threw a shoe at the CJI

Supreme Court lawyer Rakesh Kishore attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai inside the Supreme Court on October 6.

The shoe did not reach the bench, and security personnel immediately apprehended him. He was questioned for three hours and later released.

Lawyer defends statements

Kishore said he was hurt by the CJI’s remark on a 7-foot-tall broken idol of Lord Vishnu at the Javari (Vaman) Temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh.

"I do not regret what happened, nor do I fear anyone," he said. Kishore, who holds an M.Sc., Ph.D., and LLB, added that he is against violence but was compelled to act because he felt religious sentiments were insulted.
