Surfer bitten twice by shark chasing seal off Kangaroo Island

A surfer has driven himself to hospital after being twice bitten by a shark reportedly chasing a seal offshore from Kangaroo Island.

The surfer, a man in his 50s, was surfing at a place known locally as "The Sewer" in D'Estrees Bay on the island's southern shoreline when he was bitten by a shark, believed to be a Bronze Whaler, after1pm.

According to Shark Watch SA, a community social media page for sharing shark incidents, it was reported the shark was chasing a seal around the bay when the seal used the surfer as a decoy.

Police said the man was bitten on the leg and drove himself to hospital in Kingscote for treatment.
