When the sun and moon are in a straight line, it produces a combined tidal effect called a spring tide, more commonly known as a King Tide. King Tides
King Tides are typically the highest predicted tides of the year and occur when the moon is at perigee or making its closest approach to earth.
King Tides are not generated by storms and can flood coastal areas even on a sunny day since these are created by tidal forces.
If a storm is out at sea or there is just a stiff breeze off of the ocean, the tides can be enhanced further.
