Thousands of Post Offices could shut after review of 11,500 branches View Image

Around 6,000 Post Offices across the country could close down permanently amid a newly proposed shake-up. It comes after the government ended its Future of Post Office consultation yesterday (October 6).

Part of the consultation was to look at how to 'strengthen' the overall Post Office network. However, it suggested that more than 50% of the 11,500 Post Office branches across the country have become financially unsustainable.

Some of the branches believed to be most at risk are those in rural villages and those operating on a part-time basis. Branches that share their facilities with other establishments or services could also be at risk.
