WASHINGTON — A new report from the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, pointing to “ongoing trade tensions,” shows exports of American liquor fell 9% in April, May and June, compared to the second quarter of last year.

Exports of American whiskeys like bourbon saw a double-digit decline, down 13%.

Liquor exports to Canada plunged 85%, while exports to the EU dropped 12%, the report said.

President Donald Trump placed tariffs on imports of steel, aluminum and other products from Canada earlier this year. While Canada has lifted its retaliatory tariffs on American alcohol, most government-operated liquor stores that pulled American products from their shelves still haven’t resumed selling them.
