Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday (October 6, 2025) intervened after reports emerged of widespread damage to pomegranate crops in Rajasthan’s Balotra and nearby areas. The damage, believed to be caused by a sudden outbreak of diseases including the ‘Tikri’ infection, has raised concern among farmers in the area.

Taking swift action, Chouhan has directed the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to launch an immediate investigation into the matter. A special team of scientists will visit the affected regions to conduct an in-depth field assessment, identify the causes of the disease outbreak, and review existing crop management practices. The team will also recommend effective measures to curb the spread and prevent future occurrences.
