A rare October supermoon lit up the night sky late Monday night.

A “supermoon” occurs when a full Moon comes close to Earth. It only happens about three times a year, according to NASA .

This means it appeared bigger and brighter than average.

This month’s supermoon, also known as the Harvest moon, was the first of 2025. November and December will also have supermoons this year. But November’s supermoon will be the closest supermoon of the year, according to EarthSky .

Halloween falls on a full moon once about every 19 years. The last time there was a full moon on Halloween was in 2020.
