PROVIDENCE – A proposal before the city council aims to tighten an ordinance that already restricts Providence police from providing assistance to U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel.

The new language would specifically ban police from using data from the department's Real Time Crime Center to assist in any immigration-related enforcement actions. The same rule would apply to data provided by license plate-reading technology.
