DICKSON TOWNSHIP — A Cadillac woman has died after being pulled from the Manistee River on Oct. 6 following a reported drowning near the Highbridge River Access.

According to an Oct. 7 news release from the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at about 6:19 p.m. for a report of a woman who had been fishing and was no longer visible.

A witness told deputies the woman, identified as 66-year-old Merrilynn Roycraft of Cadillac, had been trying to untangle a fishing line when he last saw her. When he looked back, she was gone.

Emergency crews and several civilians launched boats and used drones to search the area. Roycraft was located around 6:50 p.m., and rescuers began lifesaving efforts. She was transported to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, where she later d
