With the strike at Toledo’s Libbey Glass plant now in its 47th day, about 100 striking workers and their allies rallied at Promenade Park Tuesday morning to demand a fair contract.

The tone of the strikers was one of determination, and the theme was one of betrayal.

“When COVID hit, Libbey came to us for help,” said David McCall, the international president of the United Steel Workers, which represents most of the strikers. “What do we get in return? A bad contract offer.”

“We just want a fair contract for our members,” said Teresa Cassady, the assistant to the director of the United Steelworkers District 1. “We will go anywhere and everywhere we can to get the company back to the table. You can’t bargain if no one will talk to you. It’s been weeks since they have sat down with us.”
