Thinking back to when she joined the Bozeman High golf team three years ago, Heidi Huber considered if she thought second place in the state was ever a possibility for her.

“Never,” she said with a laugh. “Never.”

“Never,” though, has a sneaky way of becoming “someday.” Huber, now a senior, learned that last week when she, indeed, earned second place at the Class AA state meet at Butte Country Club. She carded consecutive rounds of 80 on Thursday and Friday to finish with a two-day score of 160, just seven strokes behind first place.

Huber had the lowest score of three senior Hawks in the top five of the tournament, a congregation on the leaderboard that helped Bozeman claim its 19th girls golf state championship in school history and the first since 2020.
