The state of Illinois has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration in an effort to block the imminent deployment of National Guard troops to the city of Chicago , escalating tensions between the White House and state leadership.

On Monday (Oct. 6), Illinois attorneys filed an emergency motion urging U.S. District Judge April Perry to intervene and prevent the military deployment, which could occur as early as Tuesday (Oct. 7), according to Justice Department attorneys.

Despite the urgency of the request, Judge Perry stated she would not make a ruling on the motion until Thursday (Oct. 9) at the earliest, leaving a narrow window in which the Trump administration could proceed with its plans.
