Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney meet with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office at a time when one of the world’s most durable and amicable alliances has been fractured by Trump’s trade war and annexation threats.
The president said there’s a “natural business conflict” between the U.S. and its northern neighbor but said there’s also mutual love.
Both leaders said they were encouraged about talks in Egypt over the prospects of peace in Gaza.
Carney’s second visit to the White House on Tuesday comes ahead of a review of the free trade agreement, which is critical to Canada’s economy.
Relations with Canada’s southern neighbor and longtime ally are at a low point.
