The Baltimore County Police Department is ramping up its enforcement efforts for National Pedestrian Safety Month.

Police said in 2024, the Baltimore region saw 76 pedestrians and three bicyclists killed in traffic crashes. More than 180 crashes involving pedestrians happened during the month of October in 2024 — more than any other month of the year.

“Areas of crashes (involving) pedestrians, or where pedestrians are struck, we will focus enforcement efforts,” said Sgt. Michael Smith with the traffic division of Baltimore County police.

Smith was out with other officers Monday issuing citations to drivers who didn’t stop for pedestrians.
