Personalities like Jerry Jones should never forget that the cameras are always rolling on them. On Sunday, Dallas Cowboys owner was caught flipping the middle finger during his team’s 37-22 win over the New York Jets. The clip went viral, and fans quickly called him out for the gesture.

Jones, though, says everyone got it wrong. And his explanation? Let’s just say it didn’t exactly clear things up.

During his weekly chat with 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday, the Cowboys boss tried to set the record straight. “That was unfortunate,” Jones said. “That was kind of an exchange with our fans out in front of us. There was a swarm of Cowboys fans out in front, not Jets fans, Cowboys fans.”

He went on to claim the whole thing was just a case of bad timing and enthusiasm.
