WASHINGTON, D.C. — Prime Minister Mark Carney met today with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office in a wide-ranging and jovial conversation that even erupted into laughter several times.
“Well, it’s a complicated agreement, more complicated maybe than any other agreement we have on trade, because we have natural conflict. We also have mutual love,” Trump said of the Canada-U.S. relationship in the Oval Office.
“It’s a natural business conflict. Nothing wrong with it. And I think we’ve come a long way over the last few months, actually, in terms of that relationship,” he added.
Carney gently pushed back on the idea of “conflict” between both countries, and emphasized the need for more collaboration.
