BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont FC says its women’s team will compete next year in the USL League as part of a new Northeast Division.

The women’s soccer team becomes the third founding member to commit to the new division, joining two teams from Connecticut. The Northeast Division requires a minimum of five clubs to officially form.

Vermont FC, also known as Vermont Green, represents a significant step forward for women’s soccer in the state. The team held a sold-out exhibition match back in June. It also comes as the club’s men’s team picked up a national championship last month.
