NORFOLK, Va. — Brand new babies have arrived at the Virginia Zoo!

The zoo shared that they have welcomed three otter pups, born on August 25, to mom Elbe and dad Jilin. The three brothers are Asian small-clawed otters, a vulnerable species according to the IUCN Red List , and their parents joined the zoo in 2024 as part of a breeding program to help the Asian Small-clawed Otter Species Survival Plan.

"Jilin and Elbe have been excellent and attentive parents to their first litter as a pair," the zoo said. "The two are diligently tending to the pups and each other during this joyous transition. At one month old, the pups have started to open their eyes and wiggle about their nest box."
