MANSFIELD, La. – DeSoto Parish Schools employees will get an extra bump in their pay this week.

The School Board at a meeting Thursday night voted to add local funds to a one-time supplement coming from the state – meaning certified teachers will get $4,000 and support staff, $2,000.

“I’ve often said it, say it everywhere I go, this is not an easy job. Any profession that has the impact that education does in every facet of this district, all districts across the nation, it’s tough. It’s doubly tough in DeSoto. We don’t really apologize for that because you guys and gals have high standards, so do the folks sitting in front of you, and our leaders and everyone else involved,” Superintendent Clay Corley told the board.
