A man who is accused of murdering his partner in Shetland told an emergency call handler he had killed her in a hot tub by stabbing her "about 40 times", a trial has heard. ‌

Aren Pearson, 41, is accused of killing Claire Leveque - who was 24 and originally from Canada. The crime is said to have occurred at a garage linked to a property in Sandness in Shetland on February 11 2024. ‌

As reported by the BBC , the High Court in Edinburgh heard a recording of a 999 call made from a house in the area on the first day of evidence. ‌

During the call, Mr Pearson was heard to say he had stabbed Ms Leveque in the heart, stomach, face and neck, and that she was "definitely dead".

It's understood Ms Leveque had travelled from her home in Canada to Shetland with Pearson,
