MOUNT CARMEL, Ill. (WEVV) — The Illinois Secretary of State's office has announced the closure of the Mount Carmel DMV.
The DMV location, located at 219 W. Second St. in Mount Carmel, will close on Friday, November 14.
According to the announcement, the office was unable to reach an agreement with the landlord, and is ranked among the lowest in terms of transactions out of the state’s 122 DMVs, with only 15 driver’s licenses issued or renewed daily.
Residents who utilize the Mount Carmel DMV are being encouraged to obtain services at nearby facilities, including locations in Lawrenceville, Fairfield, Carmi and Olney.
All five employees at the Mount Carmel facility will be retained and reassigned to nearby locations.
