COLUMBIA — South Carolina football tight end Michael Smith has left the program, a spokesperson for the team confirmed to The Greenville News on Oct. 7.
Smith is 6-foot-6 and played in 12 of 13 games as a freshman in 2024. He started in seven games and caught 10 passes for 106 yards. He scored his only touchdown in the thrilling win over Missouri on Nov. 16, when he caught a pass from quarterback LaNorris Sellers to put South Carolina up 27-22 with five minutes left.
This season he caught two passes in two games, for a total of 20 yards.
Coach Shane Beamer's top tight end through five games has been Brady Hunt, who has six catches for 64 yards. Transfer Jordan Dingle is No. 2 with four catches for 63 yards.
