Soybeans and small grains can have a complementary relationship for farmers in Ohio. The root structure of small grains provides a benefit to soil structure in fields that had traditionally been in a two-crop corn-soybean rotation. Farmers who have wheat in their rotation in much of Ohio in recent years have also attempted to double-crop soybeans after the wheat harvest, and depending on the late summer weather patterns, can still get an acceptable return.
