AKRON, Ohio (WJW) - St. Vincent-St. Mary High School has canceled Friday's varsity football game against Harvest Preparatory School.

In a statement shared with FOX 8 on Tuesday, high school officials confirmed that several players on the team have sustained injuries. Some of those injuries are season-ending.

Additionally, some players have been affected by a "bacterial skin infection," school officials said.

"The combination of injuries and illness has affected the team’s roster and ability to safely compete," the statement said, in part.

The high school consulted with athletic training staff at Akron Children’s Hospital and decided to cancel Friday's matchup.
