The Trump Show is filmed in front of a live audience in the Oval Office. It stars Donald Trump, playing himself as the president of the United States, as he veers between good-natured benevolence and dark malevolence.

The star’s mood swings depend on how much stage his guest of the day commands. Trump is all for the underdog, as long as everyone knows he is the top dog.

Former prime minister Justin Trudeau had too much star power for Trump’s liking. The current prime minister, Mark Carney, is more to his taste — a Smithers to his Mr. Burns; a Watson to his Holmes; a Piglet to his Pooh Bear.

But if the mercurial TV star is enjoying himself, as he was on Tuesday in the White House, he is a gregarious and generous host. Carney is a “great prime minister…a world-class leader,” Trump said.
