OpenAI, the company behind popular AI chat bot ChatGPT, said in a recent report that accounts suspected to be linked to Chinese government agents have been banned.

The report, entitled “Disrupting malicious uses of AI: an update,” was published on Tuesday.

The company stated that the accounts in question had asked ChatGPT for assistance in drafting large-scale surveillance monitoring tools and promotional materials.

“For example, we recently banned a user, possibly using a VPN to access our services from China, who was asking ChatGPT to help design promotional materials and project plans for a social media listening tool, purportedly for use by a government client,” OpenAI wrote in the report.
