Kauai police say a man from California has died after being pulled from the waters off Anini Beach Park on Monday afternoon.

He has been identified as Todd Wilt, 61, of California.

Police said at about 3 p.m. on Monday, first responders were dispatched to Anini Beach Park on Kauai’s North Shore for a swimmer in distress. Based on preliminary reports, Wilt experienced trouble in the water and was helped to shore before collapsing.

Lifeguards with the Ocean Safety Bureau began CPR, and medics took Wilt to Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. Despite continued life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead.

Police said an autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
