HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — Hilton Head Island officials are now looking at stricter regulations to ease concerns about the 7,000 short-term rentals on the island.
This comes as they back off a previously discussed proposal to put a full moratorium on rentals.
“There was never a time when short term rentals were going to be stopped, there was never a suggestion of that ever put on the table,” said Tamara Becker, the Chair of the Hilton Head Community Service and Public Safety Committee.
But in a previous town council meeting, Hilton Head Town Council discussed a moratorium, or temporary halt to short-term rentals.
This led hundreds of rental and business owners to fill town chambers, arguing against even the idea of putting a stop to the thriving industry.
