Tulane’s Jon Sumrall can come across as the coach who cried wolf, but he does not appear to be lying this week when he praises East Carolina profusely.

By all indications, the Green Wave (4-1 1-0 American Conference) could learn a fatal moral lesson if it overlooks the Pirates (3-2, 1-0) on Thursday night at Yulman Stadium (6:30 p.m., ESPN).

“These guys are really good,” Sumrall said. “This is without question in my opinion one of the top teams in our league. Everybody’s talking about three or four other teams, but I don’t think the general public understands how good this team plays. This team is as scary as anybody we play on our schedule.”
