As thousands of teachers enter Day 2 of a provincewide strike, the union representing thousands of school support staff and education workers are eyeing what this could mean for their members and layoffs.
Lou Arab, a spokesperson with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), said the union is no stranger to the challenges teachers are facing after its own recent strike action. According to Arab, two school divisions have issued layoff notices to members. Workers at Northern Lights School Division, where there is currently no collective agreement between the board and CUPE, will all be laid off by Friday.
