DENVER (KDVR) -- Like several cities across the Front Range, a town in the high country has now installed speed cameras to issue citations for drivers caught on camera speeding.

Cameras are rolling out in Glenwood Springs, and the police department said there will be a 30-day warning period during October, before tickets will be issued to registered vehicle drivers via mail.

The Glenwood Springs Police Department said it regularly hears from residents that speeding is a top concern regarding traffic safety in the town, which is why it is launching a photo radar speed enforcement program.

The cameras are equipped with a lidar beam, and they take a picture of the vehicle and license plate when they detect a vehicle violating the speed limit. Then, a citation will be mailed to the register
