COLUMBUS, Ohio — Domestic violence claimed the lives of 157 people in Ohio in the past year, marking the highest number of domestic violence-related deaths in the last decade, according to a new report from the Ohio Domestic Violence Network.

The report also found an increase in murder-suicides connected to domestic violence, a trend advocates say is deeply troubling.

“These numbers are not abstract,” said Maria York with the Ohio Domestic Violence Network. “They represent people who should still be here and children who should’ve been safe in their own homes.”
