LOS ANGELES – A tow truck driver was struck by a hit-and- run vehicle and killed Tuesday morning while assisting a motorist stopped on the Harbor (110) Freeway in South Los Angeles, causing lane closures that lasted nearly six hours.

California Highway Patrol officers responded at approximately 1:35 a.m. Tuesday to the southbound freeway and the West Florence Avenue exit, according to CHP Officer Elizabeth Kravig.

The victim — a man whose name and age were not immediately disclosed – – was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.

The driver of a southbound vehicle did not stop after striking the victim, who was working on a vehicle on the right shoulder, a CHP officer told KTLA5.
