COLUMBUS, Ohio — The government has been officially shut down for one week and travelers are beginning to feel the impact.
On Monday, staffing shortages at a dozen airports led to delays, after air traffic controllers called in sick, according to the FAA.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned of more delays if that trend continues.
“If we have additional sick calls, we will reduce the flow consistent with a rate that's safe for the American people,” he said at a press conference Monday at the Newark airport.
TSA agents and air traffic controllers are considered essential workers during the shutdown, but they are working without pay.
The impact to travel could worsen depending on how long the shutdown lasts, according to Katy Nastro, a travel expert at Going.com.
“We want peopl
